Wallenstrom, Josephine Fern (11 Oct. 1909 - 3 July 1989)

TACOMA, Wash. - Services were held Thur., in Tacoma, Wash., for Fern Wallenstrom, 79, a former Marshfield resident, who died of cancer July 3 in Tacoma.

The Rev. Kent McCulloch officiated.

She was born Josephine Fern Snyder Oct. 11, 1909 in Jacksonberg, W. Va., and graduated from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, in 1931.

She later was married to Jay Wallenstrom in Wichita, Kan. They lived in Marshfield from 1946-60 and were actively involved in St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Her husband (b. 14 Jun 1912)  preceded her in death in (Sept.) 1979 (at Pierce, WA, SS# 442-07-0857, issued in OK).

She won several golf club championships at the Marshfield Country Club and in 1934 won the Kansas Women’s Amateur Championship.

Survivors include a son, Joel of Severna Park, Md.; a sister, Virginia of Arkansas City, Kan.; and two grandsons.

 

Memorials are requested to be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 11604 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Tacoma, or to the American Cancer Society.
