Horvath, Rose Martha (Imhof) Royce (September 7, 1922 - January 31, 2012)

Rose Martha Horvath, 89, of Randolph, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

Rose was born on September 7, 1922 in Hannibal to Rosa (Mark) Imhof and Ernest Imhof. In Rose's youth the family moved to Chicago, Ill., returning again to Hannibal where Rose graduated from Hannibal High School.

Rose married Frederick Royce on September 13, 1941. Fred was killed in action in Italy on September 16, 1944. After Fred's death, Rose graduated from Taylor County Teachers College in Medford and taught in the Hannibal, Donald and Sheldon school systems.

Rose married Joseph Horvath on August 12, 1952 and the couple lived in Hannibal until May 1962 when they moved to Randolph. Rose served the Randolph community teaching second grade. In 1973, Rose graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with an advanced teaching degree. Rose continued to teach until her retirement in 1989. After retirement, Rose was involved in several volunteer programs including serving as trustee of the United Presbyterian Church in Randolph and as a Dodge County Peer Counselor for community elderly and disabled.

Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Horvath, on May 6, 2003; grandson, Caleb Horvath; brothers, Rudy and John Imhof; and sister, Elsie Imhof.

Rose is survived by her sister, Martha Eigenbrodt of Apple Valley, Minn.; five children, Caren (Neal) Prochnow of River Falls, Joseph (Becky) Horvath of Pine River, Sandie (Tony) O'Malley of Oakfield, Lesa Voss of Albertville, Minn., and Thomas (Debbie) Horvath of Iron Ridge; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Brown, Jeffery (Stacey) Prochnow, Jamie (Nicol) Prochnow, Carly Horvath, Joe (Dena) Horvath, Meghan, Moira, Alex and Everett O'Malley, Ben, Jake, Zach and Sam Voss, and Joshua (Brittany) Horvath; seven great-grandchildren, Brandy and Maia Brown, and Kovi, Nickolas, Marley, Radek and Alexi Prochnow; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

Rose loved teaching and helped thousands of children learn their three Rs. She loved time with her family, playing games with her grandchildren and just hanging out and visiting with family and friends. Rose always had a smile on her face, especially when her favorite sports teams, Badgers, Packers and Brewers, won a game. Rose was also an artist and created many works of art that her family will treasure.

A family memorial service is being planned and interment will be at the Hannibal Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Rose's honor to purchase children's books for the Randolph Library. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sandie (Horvath) O'Malley, P.O. Box 191, Oakfield, Wis. 53065.

Zacherl Funeral Home and Crematory, www.zacherlfuneralhome.com, is serving the family.
