Jakel, Matilda Ruth (Wegerer) (January 3, 1920 - April 8, 2011)

Matilda Ruth Jakel, 91, Monee, Ill., died on Friday, April 8 at the Beecher Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Beecher, Ill.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 12 at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone, Ill.


The former Matilda Wegerer was born on January 3, 1920 in Medford to the late Francis and Mary (Werhand) Wegerer.


On May 20, 1940, she married Clifford "Jake" W. Jakel, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2004.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Church, Monee American Legion Auxiliary and Steger VFW Auxiliary.


Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Jakel Hill of Peotone and Nancy (Steve) Kochel of Crete, Ill.; two sisters, Grace Paul of Medford and Doris Schmidt of Wisconsin Rapids; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Linda Latty) Kochel, Angela (James) Griffin, Dr. Julie (David) Hernandez, Clinton (Nicole Orr) Jakel, Meagan (Jason Aardsma) Blair, David Hill, Dwayne (Cody) Hill and John (Carolyn) Hill; and nine great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Mark, on December 3, 2008; a son-in-law, Dwight Hill; a sister, Florence Metroz; and three brothers, Francis, Arthur and Earl.


Memorials to Trinity Evangelical Church of Crete are appreciated.
