Haenel, George J. (March 6, 1918 - March 20, 2011)


George J. Haenel, 93, Medford, died on Sunday, March 20 at Our House Assisted Living in Medford, where he had resided the past 2-1/2 years, while under hospice care.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 23 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Whittlesey, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery in Whittlesey. Pallbearers are Bob Anderson, Jess Sackmann, Rich Dums, Jerry Werner and Dave and Dan Haenel.

George Haenel was born on March 6, 1918 in the Town of Chelsea to the late Emil and Theresa (Ramskugler) Haenel. He attended Town of Chelsea elementary schools and was a graduate of Medford High School.


On November 6, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church rectory in Rib Lake, he married Lila "Billie" Maki, who preceded him in death on July 26, 1987. He owned and operated gravel and logging trucks throughout his working life until the time of his retirement.


He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards.


Survivors include special friend, Dorothy Anderson of Medford, and nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Walter, a sister, Irene Frischman, and two nephews.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in his name to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or Hope Hospice of Medford.
