Bristol, Robert "Bob" B. (May 5, 1945 - March 8, 2011)

Robert "Bob" B. Bristol, 65, Medford, died on Tuesday, March 8 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating.


Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Robert Bristol was born on May 5, 1945 in Evanston, Ill., to the late Chester E. and Dorothy C. (Didier) Bristol. He attended Central School and Nicholas Jr. High, both in Evanston, and Evanston Township High School. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Valley Forge from 1965 to 1969.


On November 24, 1973 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, he married Catherine "Cathy" A. Matyka, who survives. He worked in maintenance for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry in Evanston from 1970 to 1975, then worked in maintenance for the Combined Insurance Company of America from 1975 to 2002. They moved to the Medford area in 2002 where he was a janitor for the Medford Area Public School District from 2002 until the time of his retirement in 2006.


He enjoyed woodcarving, hunting and fishing.


In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Gavin (Sarah) of Lindenhurst, Ill., Louis (Debbie) of Gurney, Ill., and Beau of Round Lake, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Archie) McDonnell of Whittlesey; three brothers-in-law, Norbert Matyka and Lawrence (Marilyn) Matyka, both of Medford, and Michael (special friend Bobbie Ellington) Matyka of Westboro; two step-grandchildren, Anastasia and Nicholas Eiden, both of Gurney; nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy (Chuck) Hass and Barbara (Raymond) Sander.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
