Opitz, James R. (January 15, 1931)

“Sons And Daughters Of The Congregation Who Entered The Teaching Ministry”

James R. Opitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Opitz, who were members of the our congregation for many years, was born in Eau Claire on January 15, 1931.

He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Grade School; Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac from 1944-48; Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota form 1948-51; Concordia Teachers College summer school in River Forest, Illinois from 1951 through 1953;

He was married to Miss Audrey Ruddy of Fond du Lac in November 1963 and the couple has been blessed with four children.

He also attended Dr. Martin Lutheran College in New Ulm, Minnesota summer school in 1966, 1968 and 1970.

He taught at St. Martin’s Lutheran Grade School in Paullina, Iowa during he last half of 1951; Grace Lutheran Grade School from 1951-53 and Served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57.

Upon his discharge from the service, he was engaged in other work from 1957 through 1965. He resumed teaching in 1965 and was principal and 7th and 8th grade teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Grade School in Burlington, Wisconsin from 1965-72.

He was principal and teacher at Apache Lutheran Mission at Peridot, Arizona from 1973-75. He is presently principal at East Fork Lutheran Mission Grade and High School in Whiteriver, Arizona.
