Koffler recovering from injuries after explosion

Word has been received that Medford native Kevin Koffler was injured while serving in Afghanistan.

According to Koffler’s mother, Merri Faber, on August 13, the wrecker he was operating hit a roadside bomb, shattering his left ankle and fracturing the right. He had surgery in Afghanistan to stabilize the right ankle before being sent to Landstuhl, Germany.

He was then transferred stateside for additional medical treatment. He arrived in Portsmouth, Virginia on Saturday, August 21 and will be there for at least a couple of weeks. He has surgery Sunday on the right and will be having more surgery on the left later this week or early next week.

Koffler is expected to have a lengthy recovery and his family members are grateful that it wasn’t worse.
