Brede, Milan G. “Poppy” “Smiley” (August 1, 1933 - March 8, 2009)

Milan "Poppy" "Smiley" G. Brede, 75, Medford, died Sunday, March 8 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past five days.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. Peter Warmanen officiating, and full military honors performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Cremainal inurnment will take place in the spring in Medford Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Milan Brede was born August 1, 1933 in Medford to the late Frederick A. and Alda N. (Miller) Brede. He attended Medford and Merrill area schools.

He married Susan Tarter and they later divorced.

He then married Gerda Schmidt and they also later divorced.

He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. After the service, he moved to Florida where he was an in-home caregiver, and had many other jobs while living there. He also worked in the Menasha-Neenah area as a screed operator for a blacktop company.

He was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.

Survivors include two daughters, Julia Dane of Arizona and Milana Robinson of Menasha; three brothers, Patrick (Henrietta) Leary of Thorp, and Michael (Becky) Leary and Danny (Laura) Leary of Medford; two sisters, Bernadine (Gerald) Ziehlke of Medford and Ellen (James) Borman of Curtiss; a stepbrother, John (Jan) Leary of Florida; a brother-in-law, Harlan Siewert of Appleton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky; two sisters, Shirley Ann in infancy and Barbara Siewert in 2008; and a brother, Raymond Brede in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
