Andresen, Thomas Conrad (November 4, 1920 - January 9, 2009)

Former Medford resident Thomas Conrad Andresen, 88, Litchfield, N.H., died Friday, Jan. 9 in Litchfield.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, with his brother-in-law, Father Frederick Brost officiating.

Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Thomas Andresen was born November 4, 1920 in Medford to the late Thomas W. and Ethel (Malkson) Andresen.

He attended Medford area elementary schools, was a 1939 graduate of Medford High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years prior to World War II. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific during World War II.

In 1946 at La Crosse, he married Mary Lee Brost, who preceded him in death on December 26, 2007. He raised his family in Milwaukee and Villa Park, Ill. He split his employment between corporate business for 18 years and government service for 20 years, retiring from USDA Food and Nutrition Service in 1980. After retirement, they lived in Hayward for 18 years where he worked for the Sawyer Co. fuel assistance program, then in 1996 they moved to Mt. Morris, Ill., then Aurora, Ill. and Oswego, Ill. After his wife's death, he relocated in 2008 to Litchfield to live with his son.

He enjoyed reading, the Green Bay Packers and his beagle dogs.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Smith of Sandwich, Ill. Mary (Lyle) Frola of Oswego and Kristen Andresen of Hayward; a son, Thomas (Patricia) of Litchfield; six grandchildren, Roland James Smith, Kimberly, Benjamin and Kathleen Frola, and Thomas Jr. and Brian Andresen; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Timothy in 1983; a half sister, Marjorie Ackeret in 1932; and a brother, Malcolm in 2006.
