Lein, Gene (July 29, 1941 - April 21, 2009)

Former Jump River resident Gene Lein, 67, Belvidere, Ill., died Tuesday, April 21 at home with his family at his side.

Gene was born July 29, 1941 in Medford, the son of the late Oscar and Garnett (Johnson) Lien.

He retired from Chrysler Corp. in Belvidere after 30 years of service. Gene was a member of the U.A.W. and New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal. He served our country in the United States Army with the 370th Infantry.

He is survived by his children, Timothy (Julia) Lein of Belvidere and Shelly Lein of Itasca, Ill.; five grandchildren, Cassie Lein, Vanessa Lein, Clairissa Lein and Samantha and Stephen Strobel; and sisters and brothers, Joyce (Don) Priest of California, Marie Brooks of Jump River, Rosemary Smith of Wisconsin, Ruth (Ed) Holmes of California and Judy (Charlie) Wilbur of Stanley.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Penny Jean Lein; sister, Lorna Lein; brother-in-law, Fred Brooks; and aunt, Nell Herman.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 27 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Bradley Carloss officiating. Burial was at Hannibal Cemetery with military honors.

Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home of Belvidere and Plombon Funeral Home of Gilman assisted the family with arrangements.
