Lemke, Dorothy E. (Grube) Bartelt (September 28, 1915 - May 1, 2009)

Dorothy E. Lemke, 93, Town of Goodrich, died Friday, May 1 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past 3-1/2 years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 5 at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Goodrich, with Rev. Carl Busse officiating. Burial was at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Goodrich. Pallbearers were her sons and son-in-law.

The former Dorothy Grube was born September 28, 1915 in West Allis to the late Herman and Clara (Berg) Grube. She attended public school in the Town of Medford and Milwaukee area schools. She worked at the Memorial Hospital of Taylor County in Medford as a nursing assistant.

On October 8, 1936 in the Town of Goodrich she married Raymond P. Bartelt, who preceded her in death on July 14, 1943. They worked on the family's dairy farm in the Town of Bern, Marathon County, until his death. On September 5, 1947 in the Town of Berlin, Marathon County, she married Alfred T. Lemke, who preceded her in death on January 22, 1984. They bought and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Goodrich until 1973. She then was a waitress at Florena Supper Club and Black River Villa until her retirement in 1995.

She was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid where she served on all board capacities, and was a leader and active in the Farmer's Union Jrs. She enjoyed playing sheepshead, card parties, bird watching, Cubs baseball and local baseball games.

Survivors include her children, Richard (Ruth) Bartelt of the Town of Goodrich, Robert (Norma) Bartelt of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Narda (Louis) Lichtl of Medford, Alfred (Kathleen) Lemke Jr. of the Town of Hammel, John (Judith) Lemke of the Town of Hamburg and James (Marvel) Lemke of Medford; a brother, Arnold of Milwaukee; a brother-in-law, Rudolph Lemke Sr. of the Town of Medford; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Koontz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name to St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church or St. Andrew Ladies Aid.
