Moretz, Richard "Dick" L. (August 1, 1945 - July 3, 2009)  

 

Richard "Dick" L. Moretz, 63, Medford, died Friday, July 3 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a patient the past three days.  

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 8 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Pastor Peter Warmanen officiating. Burial will be held Thursday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, Iowa. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Keith Staff, Merle Eskildsen, David Low, Randy Pederson, and Glen, Dean, Scott, Jeff and Rodd Moretz. 

 

Richard Moretz was born August 1, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa to the late Guy P. and Myrtle (Brunsvold) Moretz.  

 

He attended Northwood elementary schools, was a graduate of Northwood Iowa High School and attended Mason City Junior College for two years. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. 

 

On May 6, 1966 in Carpenter, Iowa, he married Sandra "Sandy" Gordon, who survives.  

 

He worked for over 40 years as a federal meat inspector while residing in South St. Paul, Minn., Chippewa Falls and Spring Brook, then in 1981 they moved to Medford where he worked until his retirement in 2002. During retirement, they spent the winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., and summers in Medford.  

 

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a past council member for many years; St. Paul's Men's Club; Black River Ramblers Camping Club; Raindance Community Church of Apache Junction where served on various committees; and a past Masonic member. He enjoyed hiking, horseshoes, woodworking, fishing and his grandchildren. 

 

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Wade (Katie) of Milwaukee, Doug (Susan) of Medford and Mark (Sheila) of Marshfield; brothers and sisters, Lillian Eskildsen of Loyal, Russell (Irene) of Hanlontown, Iowa, Marge (Rick) Low, Arthur (Sharon) and Allen, all of Northwood, Wayne (Cindy) of Bozeman, Mont., and Anna (Dan) Clayton of Austin, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Moretz and Mildred Staff, both of Northwood; and eight grandchildren, Stetson, Abigail, Erich, Dylan, Tyler and Pyper Moretz, and Phillip and Jacob Lang. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald in 2001.
