Keefer, Jean G. (Grendahl) (September 1, 1922 - August 13, 2010)

Jean G. Keefer, 87, Rice Lake, died Friday, Aug. 13 at Our House Assisted Living in Rice Lake.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at Long Lake Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mary Strom officiating. Interment will be at Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery.


Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.


The former Jean Grendahl was born September 1, 1922 in Gordon to the late Fredrick and Exilda (Pete) Grendahl.


On November 18, 1940 in Decorah, Iowa, she married Robert Keefer, who preceded her in death in 2006. She worked as a receptionist for Thorp Finance and ITT Finance, retiring in 1984. They resided in Gilman for many years and later moved to Long Lake, then Rice Lake.


She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, entertaining, the Packers and her family.


Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (James) Tyler of Rice Lake; a daughter-in-law, Jill Keefer of Long Lake; five grandsons, Jeff and Scott Tyler, and Dan, Tom and Tim Keefer; and 16 great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Tom in 1997; and a brother, Fredrick "Buzz."

Appleyard's Home for Funerals of Rice Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
