Carlson, Laura H. (Lang) (November 28, 1925 - December 19, 2009)

 

Laura H. Carlson, 84, Medford, died Saturday, Dec. 19, surrounded by her family, and under hospice care.

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 22 at The United Church of Christ in Medford, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II in Medford. Pallbearers were John Aviles, Jeffry Schultz, Ken Schulz, Don Irvin, Jay Still, Charles Cutting and Charles Lang.

 

The former Laura Lang was born November 28, 1925 in Park Ridge, Ill., to the late Walter and Laura (Lemke) Lang. She attended Arlington High School in Arlington Heights, Ill. On August 5, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa, she married Lester E. Carlson, who survives.

 

She worked at Stewart-Warner in Chicago, Ill., making war products, then worked selling ladies hats. In 1955, they built a house for the family in Arlington Heights, then moved to Elgin, Ill., in 1968. In 1972, they moved to the Unity area, in 1985 to Elgin, then in 1990 back to Unity. In 1992 they moved to Medford. She also worked at Continental Manor Nursing home in Abbotsford as a cook for one year.

 

She was a member of United Church of Christ choir in Bartlett, Ill., Arlington Heights, Colby and Medford; Women's Guild in Illinois and Wisconsin; Historical Society of Medford; Chequamegon Bird Club; Ladies Auxiliary of Colby VFW; Marathon and Clark County Homemaker's Club; Girl Scout leader in Spencer and Unity; and a Brownie leader in Arlington Heights. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, bird watching, rock collecting and antique cars.

 

In addition to her husband, survivors include eight daughters, Amy Ike of Marshfield, Audrey (John) Aviles of Stanley, N.C., Betty Nickerson of Salem, Ore., Bonnie (Jay) Still of Independence, Mo., Carol (Ken) Schulz of Marshfield, Coralee (Jeffry) Schultz of Unity, Danette (Don) Irvin of Arlington, Texas, and Deanne (Matt) Surell of Palantine, Ill.; two sisters, Evelyn Schubeck and Violet Rutkowski, both of Wonder Lake, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Bill; and a son-in-law, Jim Nickerson.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.

 

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.
