Brick, Christ (95th Birthday - 10 February 1968)

Relatives and friends attended a surprise party in celeb ration of the 95th birthday of Christ Brick of Greenwood, held Friday afternoon in Greenwood. The decorated birthday cake and other refreshments were furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Grap, Mrs. Robert Carl and Mrs. Geneva Olson. Others present were the honoree’s two nephews, Alvin and Arthur Brick, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schwarze, Ervin Leach, Harold Stabnow, Walter Berthold, Eli Bogdonovich, Mrs. Ruth Grider and Mrs. Shirley Oller.

Christ Brick was born February 10, 2873, in Manitowoc County and came with his parents to Greenwood in 1876 at the age of three years. They located on a farm five miles northwest of Greenwood, now owned by his nephews, Alvin and Arthur Brick.

In 1882, after the death of his parents, the children were scattered. Christ lived for some time with the William Vollrath family. Later on, in 1893, he operated a livery business in Greenwood for 14 years. In 1905 he went to Portland, Ore.

He was married to Hazel Robinson in 1906 in Neillsville. She died in 1959, in Superior. The Brick’s had a daughter, Vida Estelle, who died in 1957. Mr. Brick is the last of a family of three boys and two girls.

He returned to Greenwood in 1961 and has resided since in the Central Hotel on Main Street. Mr. Brick is in good health and takes brisk daily walks on the streets in the city, no matter what the weather.
