George Olcott Adams was born 27 Aug 1805 in Rockingham, Vermont, February 7, 1832, the son of Joseph (7 Apr 1772-1 Oct 1866) and Patty Swan Adams (1773-?).   Joseph and Patty were married 27 October 1793 in Wallpole, Cheshire, New Hampshire.  7 Feb. 1838; George married Eliza Ellis (30 Apr 1807-19 Jan 1907) with J. S. Campbell, Justice of the Peace officiating.  They had three children: Ellen Frances (1832-1921) who married John Lovell; Charles Edgar (1838 - ) who married Elizabeth Terry;  Nelson S. (1843 - 26 May 1844) and Horton H. Adams (1847-10 Aug 1870).

1866--EARLY DAYS OF NEILLSVILLE, CLARK COUNTY, WISCONSIN  "...On the west side of the street, across from the Hubbard House, was a drug store, the proprietor being George O. Adams. He was a full-fledged Yankee from Nashua, N. H. He generally wore a long pair of rubber boots and always wore a silk high hat. He was a keen businessman, but somewhat odd in his manner. He generally walked in the middle of the road peering from one side to the other. One of his common expressions in conversations was, "I want to know." He died at Waukegan, Illinois., years ago at a very advanced age. Dee Zimmerman

South of the drug store was a general store kept by Chas. E. Adams, son of the druggist. It occupied the site where the elder John G. Klopf for many years afterwards resided and had a saloon.

1879....George Adams settled here about this time, and opened the first drug store in the village, while his brother, who accompanied him, established a dry goods store in the building later occupied by John Kloph.. 1881 History of Northern Wis., pg. 235.

George O. Adam's Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Camp Randall in Madison and was mustered into service on July 16, 1861. The regiment left Wisconsin for Washington, D. C., on July 28, 1861.

During the war it moved from Washington, D.C., through Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. After participating in the defenses of Washington, D.C., it fought at the Second Battle of Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee and his army. It moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where it was mustered out of service on July 2, 1865.

The regiment lost 357 men during service. Sixteen officers and 228 enlisted men were killed. One officer and 112 enlisted men died from disease.  Wisconsin State Historical Society
