JOSEPH RAIK


Joseph Raik, 82, died Monday, April 22, 1996, at the St. Frances Nursing Home, Superior. He had resided there for four years. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 1996, at the La Soge Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Reiff officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.


Joseph Raik was born on Jan. 31, 1914, in Sheboygan, to Frank and Antonia (nee Primc) Raik. In 1920, the family moved to Greenwood Clark County, and lived on a farm north of Greenwood. In 1941 he went to Superior, where he served in the Merchant Marines until 1944. He married Janet Osborne on July 19, 1941. She survives. He worked for over 25 years as a butcher for Elliot's Meats in Duluth worked as a watchman for Great Lakes Storage and a seaman on the Great Lakes. He was a member of the National Maritime Union.


Survivors include his wife two daughters, Margaret (Herman) Hoffmen, Dixon, Ill. and Mary (Jack) Amberg, Superior four grandchildren two great-grandsons and one sister, Josephine (Lloyd) Peterson, Greenwood.


He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
