Peters, Robert D. (17 OCT 1925 - 29 AUG 1984)


A private memorial service was held for Dr. Robert D. Peters, 58, of 318 E. Fourth St., Neillsville. Peters died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 29, 1984, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Peter's body will be cremated. Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, is handling arrangements.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1925 at West Salem to Donald E. and Gertrude F. (nee Muscheid) Peters. He was educated in Neillsville schools and graduated from Neillsville High school in 1943. He then entered the U.S. Navy through a program at Lawrence College. He served as a pharmacist-mate thrid class.

After leaving the Navy, Peters enrolled in Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1945 and graduated in 1949. He returned to Neillsville and practiced optometry until July of this year.

Mr. Peters did volunteer work for the World Health Organization for 11 years. He also was a member of the United Church of Christ.

He was married June 17, 1951 in Reeseville to May F. Volkert. She survives along with two children, Mary and William his mother, Gertrude Peters of Neillsville and one grandson. His father is deceased.

Memorial may be given to Sunburst Youth Homes or the Habitat for Humanity.
