John was born in NY 22 Aug 1840, the son of George and Mary Ann Parker who were both natives of England.  During the Civil War, John enlisted with the Union Army, 21 Dec 1863.  He first served as a Sgt. with Co. E, 118th NY Inf. and 12 Jun 1865, transferred to Co. C, 96th Inf.  He was mustered out 6 Feb 1866, at City Point, VA.  

 

His wife, Rosetta "Rose", was born (1858) in MI.  The family farmed in Sec. 13 of Beaver Twp., Clark Co., WI. 

 

They had 5 children, two of them were: Charles (b. 1877), Myrtle "Mertie" Jane (b. 21 Aug 1880, m. Thomas Tuttle, 21 Apr 1897, d. 31 Oct 1950).  John had cancer of the face and sought medical aid in Iola, but the doctors could not cure him.  When he died 15 Sep 1892, the G.A.R. took charge of the funeral and he was buried in lot #8, sec. 13 of the Beaver Twp Cemetery, Rose then married (12 Dec 1895) Andrew Jackson Gilligan who died in 1930.
