Bogumill, Johanna K. (29 MAR 1891 - 26 MAR 1963)

Mrs. John G. Bogumill, 72, died suddenly at St. Michael’s Hospital at Stevens Point, Wis., where she had been residing for the past year, on Tuesday, March 16, 1963. She had been in ill health for the past two years and a year ago she and her husband sold their home in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) and moved to Stevens Point. She was active up to the time of passing and had been a visitor in Thorp with friends just a week before.

Johanna Katherine Gruber was born March 29, 1891, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Gruber of Stanley, where she grew to womanhood and graduated from high school in 1908. She attended summer school in Chippewa Falls and taught in the rural schools of Prosperous Ridge for two years, in the Stanley schools for two years and one year in the Fischer school south of Thorp.

She was united in marriage to John G. Bogumill of Thorp on Oct. 7, 1913, by Rev. Father Eimar at St. Ann’s Church at Stanley. She and her husband purchased the Wiltgen building (now Club Recreation) and went into the furniture and undertaking business in 1913. In 1915 Mr. Bogumill attended and graduated from the Johnson College of Embalming and funeral directing at Milwaukee. In 1935 they built the Bogumill Funeral Home, in which Mrs. Bogumill assisted her husband until their retirement in 1942.

The deceased was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Thorp, The Christian Mothers Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Thorp Union Club and the Whist Club, and was very active in all. Her list of friends was many and the profound esteem in which she was held was manifested by the profusion of flowers and spiritual bouquets tendered by the many friends who gathered to pay their last tribute. Rosary services were held on Wednesday evening at the Thorp Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Lorrayne, Mrs. Jerry Faucett of Stevens Point, Wis., and Marge, Mrs. Larry Arsenault, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Susan, Mrs. John Medes, Cloquet, Minn., and Grace, Mrs. Nick Jankowski, Stanley, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandchild died in infancy.

Funeral services were conducted by Father Francis Brockman at St. Bernard’s Church here at ten o’clock Thursday morning, March 28th. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Louis Gruczynski, Ed Bogumill, Francis Conway, John Papierniak, Harold Oldroyd and Tom Bogumill.

Persons from out of town who were here for the funeral were from Stevens Point, Cloquet, Minn., Stanley, Owen, Milwaukee, Boyd, Sturgeon Bay, Madison, Hudson, River Falls, Chippewa Falls, Marshfield, Curtiss, Dayton, Ohio, Wausau and Baraboo.
