Stone, Curtis A. (3 June 1898 -16 August 1966)

 

Curtis A. Stone, 68, of Neillsville, died Tuesday at his home. Funeral services are to be held today (Thursday) at 2 o’clock from the Georgas Fifth Street Funeral Home. The Rev. Oscar Nichols of the Neillsville Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Curtis A. (Red) Stone was born June 3, 1898, in Otter Creek, Eau Claire County.  His parents were the late Isaac F. and Miranda (Thomson) Stone.  He received his education in the Osseo schools.

 

After moving to Neillsville, Mr. Stone was employed at the Counsell elevator and later worked for Clark County for a short period.  For 24 years he was an employee of the City of Neillsville, having retired three years ago.

 

On April 26, 1929 he was married to the former Irene Voldsness in Winona, Minn.

 

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Ruby Stone, at home and Mrs. Frank (Maxine) Fabian of Greenwood. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. S. C. (Hazel) Wadleigh of Galesville and Mrs. Lloyd (Bernice) Loomis of Mondovi; and a brother Tad Stone of Prince George, British Columbia, Canada; and by two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home on Fifth Street, for Curtis A. Stone, 68, of Neillsville, who died suddenly August 16, at his home on Hewett Street.  The Rev. Oscar Nichols of the Neillsville Methodist Church officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Arthur and Edgar Tews, Ellsworth Bollom, Melvin Marg, Hugh Howard and Walter Brown.

 

Mrs. Harold Mayer sang “Rock of Ages” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

People from out-of-town attending the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fabian, Mrs. Martha Fabian, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Steffen and Mrs. Ed Anderegg, all of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Wadleigh of Galesville; Mrs. Joe Wavra of La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thorpen of Osseo; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Olson and Mark, and Mrs. Chester Peterson of Strum; Mrs. Harold Havenar, Mrs. Lester Bloom and Mr. and Mrs. Lenerd Voldsness, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Voldsness and Randall Voldsness, all of Eleva; Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Voldsness, Sharon and Dianna, and Mrs. Donald Timm of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Zenger, and Mrs. Orlen Loomis of Mondovi; Mr. and Mrs. William Schroeder of Blair; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dean of Marshfield; and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schultz of Hampshire, Ill.
