Dehler, Alta (APR 1917)

The wedding announcements for the marriage of Miss Alta Dehler of La Valle and Mr. George King of this place were in the hands of the printer for Tuesday, April 3rd, 1917, whom, George, the prospective bridegroom, a member of Co. A. of the 3rd Wisconsin Regiment, received a call to respond for duty on Monday, March 26th.  He secured a three day leave of absence and next morning, armed with a special marriage permit, telegraphed his intended bride that he would be in La Valle that night to claim her, and took the next train for there.  Great preparations had been made for the wedding at her parent’s home there at La Valle next week Tuesday, but it is expected that under the circumstances, i.e. the call to war, George returned her last Tuesday morning with a bride.  For as the old saying is that everything is fair in love and war, and George is a true lover and a good soldier.

Miss Dehler is not a stranger here.  She is a milliner, and it was while here as a trimmer for the P.J. Kemmeter store three seasons in succession that her acquaintance with George ripened into love and this most eventful day of their lives followed.  We heartily welcome thse young people here and sincerely trust that theirs may be a long and happy wedded life.
