Glamkowski, Stanley J. (30 JUL 1895 - 10 DEC 1960)

Stanley J. Glamkowski, 65, a familiar personage in the post office here and well-liked by all who knew him, died suddenly late last Saturday afternoon at Eau Claire where he was stricken by a heart attack in the gift store of his wife, Frances, whom he had called for a bring back to Thorp.  He was immediately taken to the hospital but efforts to revive him failed.

Mr. Glamkowski had been ailing for the past year and receiving medical treatment but continued his duties as regular clerk which position he had held for over thirty-one years.  On Saturday he left the post office at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) about three o’clock for Eau Claire, apparently a well man.  His death came as a sad shock to the citizens of this community.

Stanley J. Glamkowski was born at Thorp (Town of Withee) on July 30, 1895 where he attended the local schools and as a young man became employed in the village as clerk in the Garrison Mercantile Store.  In 1917 he enlisted in the army, going to Waco, Texas with the detachment from Stanley, and later overseas to serve with the 119th Machine Gun Battalion until being discharged in 1919.

In 1925 he became employed in the post office here and continued as regular clerk, which position he held at the time of death.  He contemplated retiring after the first of the year.
