Gordon J. Christophersen, 78, Greenwood, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in the emergency room at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service conducted by the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #317, at Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 12, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tad Christophersen, Chad Christophersen, Adam Christophersen, Kurt Volovesk, Curtiss Mayenschein, Todd McFarlane, Luke Humboldt, and David Fuglsang.

 

Gordon Junior Christophersen was born May 25, 1962, in Withee, to Peter R. and Alma (nee Olsen) Chirstophersen. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Withee area. He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, and served overseas during WW11. He then returned to the Withee area and married Marjorie Jackson on Oct. 4, 1947. They later divorced. He worked several jobs as a truck driver and mechanic before starting a 30-year career as a mail carrier for the Greenwood Post Office. He married Shirley Frame on June 8, 1971, in Rockford, Ill. He later worked for Grassland Dairy Products for 10 years as head mechanic and then at Barr Enterprises as a truck driver until retiring in 2002. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, the Greenwood American Legion #238, in which he was very active, the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #317, the Clark County Male Chorus, the Neillsville V.F.W. and the 40 and 8 Voiture. His interests included spending time with his grandchildren, reading, day trips with his wife, hunting, with his sons, bowling, visiting with friends and working with his hands.

 

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Christophersen, Greenwood; his children, Ardis (Darrel) Brown, Madison, Gordon Lee Christophersen, Tomah, Sue (Jack) Volovsek, Wausau, Betty (Ronald) Fuglsang, Ham Lake, Minn., Wendy (William) Campbell, Madison, Peter (Ellen) Christophersen, Appleton, Shane Christophersen, Plover, Wanda  (Denis) Stemen, Marshfield, Sherri (Keith) Kalman, Cederburg, Deanna Frame, Sturgeon Bay, and Sue (Mike) Woehrle, Vadnais Heights, Minn; 23 grandchildren; 10great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Christophersen, South St. Paul, Minn., and L. Pete Christophersen, Thorp.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents.

 

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.
