George L. Turner, 88, Neillsville Memorial Home, Neillsville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 1990, at 5:45 a.m. at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, Neillsville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1990, at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Rev. Loren Hickerson, United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in York Center Cemetery, Granton. Pallbearers were Edgar Tews, Milton Schoenfeld, Clarence Becker, Larry Turner, William Buddinger Jr., and Wilbur Buddinger.


George Turner was born April 3, 1901, in the town of York, to Abie and Hattie (Lindsey) Turner. He received his education at the Oriole Hill School in the town of York. After his education he worked with his father doing carpentry work in the area. He married Margaret H. Geisler on Dec. 16, 1922, in Neillsville. After their marriage they moved to Illinois, where he was a carpenter for about 10 years. He then moved back to Neillsville, where he continued doing carpentry work. He worked with Art Carl and his brother Clayton and later with Edgar Tews. He had been a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home since Nov. 1984 due to ailing health.


Surviving him are one son, Donald Turner, Neillsville one sister, Harriet Triska, Neillsville two brothers, Wilbur Turner, Kirkland, Ill. Orville Turner, Neillsville one granddaughter, Barbara Miller.


Preceding him in death were his parents wife one daughter, Jane twin daughters in infancy four brothers, Victor, Clayton, Myron, Grant and one sister, Mabel.


Gesche Funeral Home, Inc., Neillsville, handled the arrangements.
