Smaldone, Frank (1890 - 1963)


GREENWOOD--Service were held at 2 p.m. today at the Hill Funeral Home here for Frank Smaldone, 73, Greenwood, Clark County, who died of a heart ailment at his home early Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, 1963. He had been in ill health for the past four years. The Rev. David Kellin, pastor of Grace Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery with Military rites in charge of the Wallis-Hinker American Legion Post.


Mr. Smaldone was born July 24, 1890 in Troy, N.Y., and lived there until 1914 when he entered service. He received his discharge in 1917 and Aug. 16, 1919 he married Margaret McNeil at Columbus, Ga. After their marriage the couple lived at Reeve, Wis., and in 1924 they came to a farm east of Greenwood. In 1929 they moved to a farm west of Greenwood and lived there until his retirement in 1948, when they moved to the city. For many years he was adjutant of the Legion here.


Mr. Smaldone is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Matthew (Lois) Nowosel, Glenview, Ill., and Miss Mary Smaldone, Maywood, Ill., and a brother, Anthony Smaldone, Ilion, N.Y.


He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and four sisters.
