NORMAN WALLIS TO BE BURIED SUNDAY
GREENWOOD SERVICEMAN WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE IN 1944


Greenwood Final funeral and burial rites will be conducted for Pfc. Norman D. (Bud) Wallis, 32, who was killed in action in France Aug. 10, 1944, while serving with the Army Infantry's invasion force.


The remains are expected to arrive in Greenwood, Clark County tonight and will be taken to the Stabnow Funeral Home to remain until the time of the funeral services Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Grace Methodist Church. The Rev. Lee H. Holmes will conduct the church rites, followed by interment in the Greenwood Cemetery.


The Wallis-Hinker Post of the American Legion, No. 238, and its Auxiliary will attend the rites in a body.


The serviceman was born in Greenwood Sept. 13, 1911, and was graduated from Greenwood High School in 1930. He spent his entire life in Greenwood with the exception of a few months with a construction crew of the New Brighton defense plant near St. Paul.


On March 19, 1942, he entered service and after 18 months of training at Camp Pickett, Va., went to England, where he was based until taking part in the invasion of France.


Shortly before he went overseas he was married at Berwyn, Ill., on July 14, 1943, to Miss Louella, Svoboda, now Mrs. Ed McGlothin of South Bend, Ind.


Other survivors are two brothers, Staff Sgt. Donald Wallis with the U.S. Army in England, and Harry Wallis, at home four sisters, Mrs. Dewey (Leone) Plahn, Clayton, and Mrs. John (Irene) Rydell, Mrs. Earl (Elenore) Mitchell, and Mrs. John (Elsie) Montez, all of St. Paul and two half-sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Mabel) Farley, St. Paul, and Ora of Hixton.


His mother, Mrs. Dean Wallis, resides at Greenwood. His father died two years ago and three sisters also preceded him in death.
