J. S. WUETHRICH DIES TUESDAY
RITES PLANNED FRIDAY FOR WIDELY KNOWN FARMER, DAIRYMAN


Greenwood--John Wuethrich, 65, a pioneer in the dairy industry of Clark County, died at his home Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 12, 1948 at 1:30 o'clock.


Death came due to complication. He had been in ill health for the past two years.


Funeral services will be conducted at his home Friday at 1:30 p.m. and at the Grace Methodist Church at 2 o'clock. Until then the body will lie in repose at his home.


Two ministers, the Rev. Lee Holmes of the Methodist Church and the Rev. B. M. Fresenborg of Zion Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.


John Samuel Wuethrich was born June 10, 1883 at Canton, Bern, Switzerland, the third son of Samuel and Katherine Wuethrich. He came to the United States with his family in 1893 and settled in Woodland, Dodge County.


In 1904 he came to Greenwood, where he was employed as a buttermaker for Carl Grashorn in what is now the Armour Cheese House. Later he went to Doylestown and started a creamery with his two brothers, Alfred and Fred.


A short time later, Wuethrich returned to Greenwood and started a creamery in the Town of Eaton.


He was married to Miss Vera Drummond at the Grace Methodist Church in Greenwood June 10, 1909, by the Rev. William Norton.


He was graduated from the Dairy School at Madison in 1902, and took two short Course at the University of Wisconsin in 1920 and 1921.


Active in Masonic work, he was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge, a member of the Commandery and Consistory at Eau Claire, and president of the Friendship Class of 1938.


Mr. Wuethrich was a director of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America, and treasurer of the state Holstein group for many years.


He was a member of the Town of Eaton School Board and was a charter member of the Greenwood Rotary Club. He was accorded special honors by the University Of Wisconsin May 27, 1948, for pioneering in production and distribution of dairy products.


Surviving are his wife, two sons, John D. and Allen, both of Greenwood and five grandchildren. Two brothers, Alfred, Rio and Fred, Doylsetown and two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Schimmelphennig, Mayville and Mrs. O.E. (Katie) Hoyt, Iron Ridge, Also survive.


He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jacob and Charles.
