OBITUARY OF JOHN B. LUCAS


John B. Lucas
was born in the Isle of Jersey, England, March 9, 1869. When a lad of 13, he went with his parents to Canada, later coming to the United States and settling at Phillips where he has resided ever since, excepting for about a year which he lived in Greenwood, Clark County, where he and his father conducted a blacksmith shop in what is known now as Miada's Store and lived in the house now occupied by the Howard Corey family.


On Oct. 7, 1891, he was married to Winifred Murray at Ogdensburg, N.Y. and to them were born four children, two of whom preceded their father in death.


Mr. Lucas passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 1939 at the Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison, where he had been taken Sunday for medical treatment. His death was caused from heart trouble and other complications from which he had been suffering for more than a year.


Mr. Lucas was always a machinist and was an expert at his profession. He was a member of the city Council at Phillips and was an active member of the I.O.O.F. and Masonic Lodges.


He is survived by his wife and two sons, Wilfred of Pasadena, Calif. Leland of Ashland three sisters, Mrs. H. M. Pratt of Greenwood, Mrs. Geo. Sawin, New Rochelle, N.Y. Mrs. Geo. Searle, Melnose, Mass.


Funeral services were conducted by Rev. David E. Hill of the Methodist Church at the home on Sunday, April 30, 1939 for the immediate friends and relatives and Masonic services were held at the grave in the Lakeside Cemetery.
