LAST RITES FOR MRS. J.C. BAKER


Funeral services for Mrs. J.C. Baker, which were widely attended, were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church here, with the present minister, W.F. Grandy, Glen Flora, being assisted by two former Methodist pastors at Hawkins, Rev. James Van Patter, of Glen Flora and Rev. Abbie Burnett, of St. Croix Falls. The Ladysmith chapter of the Eastern Star, of which Mrs. Baker had long been a member, sent a large delegation of its members to the funeral.


Mrs. Baker had been a member of the Methodist church here since she came to this village in 1908 and her interest in church and other community activities gave her a place as one of the community's most respected.


Deceased was born at Warrens, Dec. 2, 1877, and spent here early life at that place. Her marriage to Dr. Julian C. Baker took place at Warrens Jan. 14, 1899. In 1900, Dr. and Mrs. Baker moved to Greenwood, Clark County, where they resided for 8 years, coming to Hawkins in 1908, which has since been their home.


Surviving relatives include the husband, three children, Burton C. of St. Paul, Mrs. Roland Barnett of Landysmith, and Cedric of Hawkins five grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. A. C. Ruthledge, Dwarte, Cal., and Elizabeth and Clare Barber of Monrovia, Cal.


Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Warrne Baker, Daughter Alice, and sons Vilas and Royal of Wisconsin Rapids Dr. and Mrs. K. W. Baker and daughters, Sue and Frances of Owen Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barber and son, William of warrens Miss Edith Barber of Warens and Dr. and Mrs. Ray Bell of Tomah. (Hawkins Paper)
