Mrs. Ida Tischendorf Is Buried Monday (2-Apr-1943)


Funeral services were held on Monday at 1:30 o'clock from the Ed Leichtnam home in Abbotsford and at 2:00 o'clock from the Peace Evangelical Church for Mrs. Ida Tischendorf, 86 pioneer Dorchester resident, who passed away Friday, April 2, at the Ed Leichtnam home in Abbotsford.

 

Mrs. Tischendorf belonged to the Peace Evangelical Church and was a familiar figure in the community.

 

Mrs. Tischendorf was born in Germany on March 15th, 1857, and was married on June 13, 1882 to Gust Tischendorf. They came to this country in March, 1891 and settled at once in Dorchester where her husband operated a successful cigar business.

 

The couple owned a farm a mile north of the village in 1900 and in 1934 they moved into a newly built home in the village.


The services were read by the Rev. Pauloweit of the Peace Church, and burial was made in the Peace Church Cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers. They included: Arthur and Elmer Leichtnam, William and Lloyd Tischendorf, and Ernest and Albert Winchell.

Survivors include four children: Mrs. Joel (Mary) Winchell, Dorchester, Mrs. George (Martha) Dahl, Minocqua Robert of Illinois and Mrs. Ed (Rose) Leichtnam, Abbotsford.  Two children died during infancy and their son, William, died in 1920.


Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. William Tischendorf, Mrs. Albert Winchell, Mars. Art Leichtnam, Mrs. Alvin Nelson, Mrs. Milton Larson, and Mrs. Lloyd Tischendorf. Those from out-of-town who attended were Mr. and Mrs. George Dahl, Minocqua Mr. and Mrs. Ed Leichtnam, Abbotsford Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tischendorf of Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Procknow, Athens Mrs. Arnold Laack, Abbotsford and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Larson of Abbotsford.
