Effie May Hemminger, 88, formerly of Greenwood, Clark County, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996, at Colonial House Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Colby.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 1996, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Rev. Mark Neuman will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.

Effie May Pratt was born on Aug. 6, 1908, in Larimer County, Colorado, to Walter Benjamin and Effie May (nee Harris) Pratt. She was raised in a log cabin in the mountains above Denver, Col.

She graduated from high school in Minatare, Neb. And then graduated from Chadron State Teachers College in Chadron, Neb. In 1928. After her education, she married Simon Pyeatt in Arkansa in the mid-1930's. They moved between Kansa and Nebraska and worked on ranches. He died on Sept. 12, 1949. She then moved to California and became a psychiatric technician and worked in a mental hospital for more than 20 years. After retiring in 1970, she moved to Wisconsin. She married John M. Hemminger on March 18, 1978, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood. He died on Jan. 20, 1989. They lived north of Greenwood until 1983, when they moved to Neillsville.


She resided there until entering the nursing home in 1994. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing and bird watching.

Survivors include one sister, Evaline, Lamle, Scotts Bluff, Neb. and Nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
