Dennis Halpin (1927 - 1999)


Dennis R. Halpin, 71, Loyal, died on Saturday, Oct. 9 at his home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal, with Rev. Roman Kaiser officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers are Bob Bertz, Dan Meyer, Tom Halpin, Jon Fischer, Harold Harm, Bob Kutchera, Terry Stutte and Scott Bauman.


Rinka Funeral Home of Loyal assisted the family with arrangements.


Dennis Richard Halpin was born December 21, 1927 in Alma Center to the late Theodore and Regina (Benda) Halpin. He moved to Loyal as a child and graduated from Loyal High School in 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956.


His marriage to Leila Banks, who survives, took place on May 24, 1958 at St. John's Catholic Church in Rib Lake. The couple raised eight children and farmed northeast of Loyal for the past 41 years. He was also employed with various trucking companies, including Marathon Cheese, Clark Transport and hauling hay. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, flying and spending time with his family.


In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Steve (Julie) of Bloomington, Minn., Pat (Jenny) of Greenwood, Clark County, WI, Mike (Kim) of Spencer, and Daniel of Loyal four daughters, Terry (Mike) Vechinski of Wausau, Sue (Tom) Ritchie of Sheyboygan, Becky (Kenny) Harm of Spencer, and Mary Halpin of La Crosse one brother, Bill (Mary) of Prairie du Chien and 14 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald.
