Hasz, James O. (27 SEP 1945 - 4 NOV 2012)

James Hasz, age 67, of Granton, WI died Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI.

James Otto Hasz was born on September 27, 1945 in Neillsville, WI the son of Otto Henry and Arlene Gladys (Lindow) Hasz. He graduated from Granton High School in 1963 and then earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering Technology from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville in 1967. In the fall of 1967, Jim enlisted into the National Guard. He served with the Guard until his honorable discharge in October of 1973. Also in the late '60's to early 70's Jim worked as a Pride Seeds dealer. On September 15, 1973 he was united in marriage to Gail Kewin. They farmed at his parent's farm and some rental properties and Jim also did custom tillage and harvesting, later they moved to a farm in Lynn belonging to Oscar Sternitzky and operated it for three years. Jim opened a model train shop in 1975, at his home and later moved it to Marshfield, WI. It was called Mid-Wisconsin Hobby Center and operated it until 1986. Following the closure of the store, Jim went to work for Triple F Feeds for about three years while also working part-time for Eldon Helm. He also started Hasz Lawn Service and worked for Spring Green Floral in Marshfield from the late 80's to the early 90's. Following these events, Jim attended UW - Marshfield for two years and then transferred to UW - Oshkosh for two more. For the final ten years before he retired, Jim worked for the Granton Post Office. In retirement, Jim continued with the lawn service and doing a little model train work as a hobby.

Jim was involved with Scouting for a number of years, being a leader for the Webelos and a Cub Master for three or four years and later became a certified Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts in Model Railroading. Jim was active in the Hub City Central Model Railroad Club, the Granton Antique Tractor Club and the Granton Rotary Club

Jim is survived by his wife, Gail, two sons, Jason Hasz of Granton, WI and Nicholas Hasz of Eau Claire, WI, his mother, Arlene Hasz of Granton, WI and two sisters, Donna (Jim) Zwicke of Marshfield, WI and Vickie (Donald) Schnitzler of Marshfield, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Hasz.

Funeral Services for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton, WI. Pastor Daniel Schoessow will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the church.
