Darlene M. Ottoway, 77, Dodgeville, formerly of Mineral Point and Loyal, entered eternal life peacefully on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center, Dodgeville. A Mass Of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dodgeville. Rev. Patrick Wendler officiated. Burial took place at Oakwood Cemetery, Berlin.

Darlene M. Bertz was born on June 23, 1935, to Reuben and Cecelia (nee O’Reilly) Bertz in Loyal. She married Jerome “Gene”/Jerry Ottoway on Sept. 15, 1956. She attended Marquette University and received a certificate as a dental assistant. She worked many years in the dietary department at the Mineral Point Care Center and then spent 15 years at Lands’ End in the building maintenance department until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed her work, her co-workers and all the friends she made over the years. She loved to socialized, play bingo, be with her family and sit on her front porch with friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Darlene is survived by her children, Wayne (Terry) Ottoway, Allen Ottoway, Mineral Point, Jerry (June) Ottoway, Linden, Julie (Kevin) Sincox, Ridgeway, Robert Ottoway, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bill (Trisha) Ottoway, Mineral Point; 17 grandchildren, Matthew and Quinn Ottoway, Jacob, Jenah, and Mandi Mutert, Cherrie (Chris) Hobler, Angel (Josh) Feund, Erin Sincox, Chrystal Harmony and Liberty Ottoway, and Ian Cassidy, Gabriel, Rebekah and Uriah Ottoway; her siblings, Bob (Joan) Bertz, Loyal, Colleen (Don Anderson) Kraeger, Cudahy, Joy Bogdonovich, Greenwood, Joann (Max) Hatden, Eau Claire, and Donna Gruber, her tin sister, Madison; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Bushnell, Lodi, and James (Shirley) Ottoway, Omro; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jacobs, Neillsville, and Marilyn Pavelske, Berlin, as well as many other relatives and friends and her beloved cat and companion, Petra.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, on April 2, 1977; and infant daughter, Susan; two brothers, Bill (Betty) Bertz, Ann Arbor, Mich., and David Bertz, Neillsville; three sisters, Virginia Bushnell, Lodi, Rosemary (Josh) Sanford, Reedsberg, and Deanna Will. Van Dyne; two brothers-in-law Ed Bogdonovich, Greenwood, and Frank Palveske, Berlin; an two sisters-in-law, Delores Werch, Berlin, and Kathleen (George) Crimmings, Berlin.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Upland Hills Hospital, the Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice.

Gorgan-McGinley & Ayers Funeral Home, Dodgeville, assisted the family with arrangements.
