Karnitz, Ernest C. ‘Beanie’ (18 April 1893 - 24 September 1965)

 

Funeral services were held Monday from the Georgas Funeral Home for Ernest C. (Beanie) Karnitz, 72, of 113 W. 21st Street, Neillsville, who died Friday in the Veterans Hospital in Madison following an illness of several months. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the Neillsville United Church officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Ernest Karnitz was born April 18, 1893, to the late Fred W. and Marie (Wuhn) Karnitz, in the Town of Pine Valley, where he attended school and grew to manhood.  He had been a resident of the Neillsville area his entire lifetime, with the exception of the time he was in service in World War I.  In May of 1918, he entered the armed forces and spent some time in Europe as a member of Company ‘A’ 53rd Infantry.  He received the Purple Heart, having been wounded in battle.  He was discharged from service in April 1919.

 

On June 18, 1924, he was married to the former Dorothy Wren in Neillsville. Since 1924, the Karnitz family has resided in Neillsville, where he worked at various jobs prior to his retirement in 1958.  He served for several years on the city council. 

 

Survivors are his wife; a son, Jon, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Alma) Durst of Neillsville and Mrs. Jake (Lillian) Wallace of lake Villa, Ill.; and three brothers, Thone Karnitz of rural Neillsville, Albert Karnitz, who makes his home with his brother, Thone, and Edward Karnitz of Barron.

 

Mr. Karnitz was a member of Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post.

 

Pallbearers were: Henry Wasserburger, Arnold Yankee, Herman Tesmer, Ernest Vine, August de Kennen and Arnold Henchen.

 

People from out of town here for the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Karnitz and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Karnitz of Barron; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wallace of Lake Villa, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Rush of Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wren and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cardarelle and daughter of West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schudi of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Smetana of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Carey of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Doland Cardarelle, Judy and Ronnie Wren and Mrs. Walter Schmidt of West Bend; and Mrs. Myrtle Polzin of Sturtevant.
