Alvin Hanson, 81, of Granton died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Alvin Clayton Hanson was born Dec. 23, 1930, to Archie and Leva (Halvorson) Hanson in Taylor. He attended Taylor schools and then worked at General Motors in Janesville until entering the United States Army in 1951. He was united in marriage to Virginia Berg Dec. 8, 1951 and they lived in Fayetteville, N.C., while Alvin was serving in the 82nd Airborne.

Upon his discharge from the Army, Alvin returned to General Motors and worked there until 1956 when he went to work for Tri-State Breeders (now known as Accelerated Genetics). They moved to Granton in 1958 and Alvin continued to work as an artificial inseminator. Later, he became District Supervisor and eventually put on schools for the trade in the United States, Mexico and South America. After retirement, for several years, he and Virginia would head to Dillon, Mont., for the month of May, where Alvin would breed cows on two ranches.

Alvin was a member of the Granton Rotary and a life-member of the FFA Alumni. He served on the Granton Village Board, the Granton Park, the Fire Department and the Zion American Lutheran Church Council.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, three sons, Dan (Mary Jo) Hanson of Savage, Minn., Allan (Lou Ann) Hanson of Loyal, and Bruce (Sheri) Hanson of Granton. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Chelsie (Devon) Gawne-Mark, Erin (Tony) Passon, Josh and Jamie Hanson, two brothers, Artis (Elayne) Hanson of Portage, and Dean Hanson of Taylor, one sister, Donna (Don) Larson of Alma Center, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marie Wheelock, a brother, Archie LaVerne Hanson and a sister-in-law, Janice Hanson.
