Kegley, Amos E. (23 November 1886 - 18 February 1964)

 

Amos E. Kegley, 77, of East Troy, died suddenly February 18, at the home of friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, in Beloit, where he and Mrs. Kegley had spent the day visiting.

 

They were ready to start home when they discovered they had a flat tire.  Mr. Jensen assisted in changing the tire and they had just finished when Mr. Kegley collapsed.  He was rushed by ambulance to Beloit Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

 

He was born near Hillsboro November 23, 1886, to Albert and Armilda Kegley.  He was married to Anna Johnson at Hillsboro October 30, 1907. To this union five sons and three daughters were born.  His first wife died in February 1948.

 

He was married November 26, 1949, to Mrs. Pearl Miller, who survives. Also surviving are: four sons, Arlie and Garold of East Troy, Lyle of Honey Creek, and Earl of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Eva) Quam of Stoughton, Mrs. Don (Leola) Alm, Sr., Chicago; a step-son, Herbert Miller of Randolph;17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray, of Minneapolis; three sisters, Mrs. Lewis (Laura) Olson of Hillsboro, Mrs. William (Iva) Lodge of Reedsburg, and Mrs. Ralph (Edith) Short of Neillsville. He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son, Jesse, a daughter, Beulah, his parents, and a brother, The Rev. Vern Kegley.

 

He lived near Hillsboro several years, then they moved onto a farm near Neillsville in 1913, living there until 1921, when they moved near Viroqua.  They moved onto a farm near East Troy in 1924, living in that area since that time.

 

For the last 16 years he served as assessor for the Town of East Troy, which office he was still holding.  He was the oldest assessor in Walworth County.

 

Funeral services were held from St. James Methodist Church in East Troy Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Nobel officiating.  Burial was made in Oak Ridge Cemetery, near East Troy.

 

Pallbearers were six grandsons: Don, Jr., Malcon, and Mel Alm of Chicago, Terry and Norbert Kegley of East Troy and Jimmie Quam of Stoughton.
