Parkel, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (60th - 18 January 1964)

 

The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkel, Sr., of Greenwood, was celebrated with a dinner in their honor Saturday evening.  They were presented with gifts and many congratulatory messages.

 

Frank Joseph Parkel and Theresa Helen Gorene were married in Frontenac, Kans., January 18, 1904, at the holy Family Church. Attendants were the late Mrs. Ann Mouser Ursich and Louie Parkel.

 

Mr. Parkel, who was born October 4, 1878, in Yugoslavia, came to America December 19, 1902.  His wife, who also was born in Yugoslavia, December 17, 1880, came to America October 16, 1903.

 

Mr. Parkel was a coal miner and then went into the liquor wholesale business in 1911.  They came to Willard in 1917 and farmed there until they retired in 1947 and moved into Greenwood. Both are in good health.

 

The Parkels have six children: a son, Frank, of Willard; and five daughters, Mrs. August (Theresa) Podobnik and Mrs. Nick (Ann) Babich of Loyal, Mrs. Joe (Helen) Wene, Mrs. George (Mildred) Hiller and Mrs. Bud (Donna) Singer, all of Milwaukee.  All their children were present for the occasion except Mrs. Singer.  The Parkels also have 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. August Podobnik, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Babich and Barby, and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Zupanc and Scott and Terri, of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. James Dahlke and Jimmy of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Parkel, Parky, and Lucas Dernovsek of Willard; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wene and Mr. and Mrs. George Miller of Milwaukee.
