Foemmel, Florence M. (5 MAY 1914 - 22 DEC 2011)

 

Florence M. Foemmel, 97, of Chili died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Bethel Center in Arpin where she had been a resident since Aug. 1, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili with the Rev. Sally Rendell officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel United Methodist Cemetery, town of Fremont. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Florentyna Michalina Laks was born May 5, 1914, to Stanislaw and Marja (nee Kwiatkowska) Laks. She married Silas H. Foemmel Aug. 21, 1937, in Chili. After their marriage they resided on their farm in Chili until Silas passed away in 2000. On Jan. 25, 1969, she officially had her maiden name amended to Florence Monica Laks.

Florence attended grade school and most of high school in Cudahy. In 1931, she moved with her family to Neillsville, where she graduated from Neillsville High School in 1931. She then graduated from Neillsville Teachers Training in 1932 and furthered her education at UWEC and UWSP.

Mrs. Foemmel was a teacher for 28 years in various schools throughout Clark and Wood counties in central Wisconsin including Rock Creek, Cozy Corner, Pine Circle, Fourside, Valley View, Veefkind, Audubon and Pittsville. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, embroidery, scrapbooking and caring for her family. Florence touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by her entire family, especially her son, Jerry and grandsons, David and Michael.

Florence was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili.

She is survived by her son, Jerome Foemmel, Marshfield and his children, David, Diane, Alice and Michael; six grandchildren, Debbie Moeller, Larry Nickel, Mark Nickel, Susan Moede, Dale Nickel and Dean Nickel and 23 great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Silas, a son, Stanley, a daughter, Sylvia (William) Nickel and her siblings.
