Neuenfeldt, Raymond #2 (24 JUL 1926 - 26 JUL 1961)

Funeral services for Raymond Neuenfeldt, 35, 4813 E. 2nd St., Superior, killed Wednesday, July 26, when the brakes on his truck failed on Highway 61 near Grand Portage, Minn., were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday from St. Anthony Church, Superior, with the Rev. Fr. Harold E. Dodge officiating..  Burial was made at St. Francis Cemetery.

Mr. Neuenfeldt, a drive for Ruan Transportation Co., was hauling hot tar for the firm when his truck apparently went out of control about 1 ¼ miles west of Grand Portage, witnesses reported.  The truck tipped over when it failed to make a turn at the foot of a long grade, spilling hot tar into the cab.

According to E. Emerson Morris, Cook County Sheriff, witnesses said Neuenfeldt was blowing the horn of the truck all the way down the hill, which indicated his brakes had failed.

Neuenfeldt was well known in this community, being the brother of Mrs. Ray Wagner, and for some time several years ago was employed by Wagner as a truck driver.

He was born in Rib Lake July 24, 1926, and had resided in Superior for the past 10 years.  He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 288, and was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Jocile; two daughters, Rhonda and Mary Angeline, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Neuenfeldt, Dorchester; three brothers, Howard, Larry and LeRoy, Dorchester, and four sisters, Mrs. Glen Molzner, Milwaukee, Mrs. Earl Schmidt, Medford; Mrs. Ray Wagner, Owen, and Mrs. Clifford Stevens, Marshfield.
