Mrs. John Pawelek, 72, passed away at the home of her daughter Irene, Mrs. Franklin H. Swenson in Akron, Ohio, where she and her husband have recently been staying.  A cerebral hemorrhage was the cause of death.

Mary Elizabeth Markiewicz was born in Poland on July 13, 1887, and came to America with her parents about the year 1900.  She was united in marriage to John Pawelek on Sept. 22, 1902, in Chicago, Ill.  They came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1902, and settled on a farm enar here, later moving to the village and going into business.  After retirement they purchased a home just outside the west city limits in the Township of Thorp where they lived for many years and up until a short time ago.

Mrs. Pawelek was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Christian Mothers Society of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, and the Polish National Alliance.

She is survived by her husband and three sons, Dr. Stanley J. Pawelek and Dr. Alan R. Pawelek of Baltimore, Md., and Richard E. Pawelek of New York City; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Roensch, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Clemens Kwapy, Wauwatosa, Wis., Mrs. Leonard G. Titus, San Mateo, Calif., and Mrs. Franklin H. Swenson, Akron, Ohio; three brothers, John Helma, Joseph Markiewicz and Frank Markiewicz of Chicago, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Her parents, Simon and Katherin Markiewicz (formerly of Gilman) and one daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. Alan Earle, preceded her in death.

The body was brought to the Thorp Fuenral Hoem where it lay in state until the time of the funeral, which was held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at 9:15 o’clock Monday morning, Dec. 28th.  A requiem Mass was sung by Rev. Father Herbert Hoffman at 9:30.

Interment took place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Louis Badzinski, Eugene Wilhelm, Gordon Wolf, B. Burkhardt, Pat Soderberg and Lawrence Van Loo.
