Meredith, Maybelle (3 May 1913 - 11 October 1963)

 

Mrs. Maurice (Maybelle) Meredith, 50, of Rt. 3 Neillsville, died here October 11.  She had been in poor health for several months.

 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the United Church of Christ. The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. 

 

Mrs. Meredith, the former Maybelle Lightfoot, was born May 3, 1913, in Fairchild. She was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Effie (Durst) Lightfoot. She attended schools in Fairchild and Humbird and attended college in La Crosse.

 

On July 14, 1931, her marriage to Maurice Meredith took place in Winona, Minn.  They farmed in the Tioga area until 1939, when they moved to Neillsville, where Mr. Meredith had employment with the County Highway Department.  Mrs. Meredith was employed as a clerk in a local store.

 

She was a charter member of the Hilltop Homemakers Club and was an officer in the county, state and district homemakers clubs.

 

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. John (Alice) Flitter of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Roland (Janet) Jenni of Neillsville; and a son, Thomas, of Rt. 3, Neillsville.  Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Ted (Zelda) Green of Albuquerque, N. M., and Mrs. Tony (Frances) Klancher of West Allis; and eight grandchildren.

 

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

 

Pallbearers were: Walter Aumann, Gordon Sharratt, Oscar DeMert, Ivan, Neal and Raymond Durst. "The Lord is my Shepherd" and "I Would be True" were sung by Mrs. Donald Schultz, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

Out of town people attending were: Mr. and Mrs. John Flitter and family of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Green of Albuquerque, N. M.; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Klancher of West Allis; Misses Rose and Ruth Meredith and John Mortel of Greenwood; Ivan, Neal, and Raymond Durst, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Lightfoot, Dorothy and Rolla Seig, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Raymond, all of Fairchild; Mrs. Bernard Scheffer, Mrs. Herb Green, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Scholze, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lightfoot of Humbird; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence M. Bain and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Blackman of Kenosha; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Horn of Hixton; Mrs. Ed Timmler of Loyal; Vaughn Rose and Milton E. Meredith of Union Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Newton Meredith of Bristol; Orissa Seig, Dale Gyestvang, Mrs. Ira Haskins, Mrs. Chester Heath, Sandra Finley and Mrs. Richard Ida, all of Augusta; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marg of Black River Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fees of Alma Center.
