Ehlert, August (6 OCT 1893 - 25 JUL 1959)

 

August Ehlert, 65, owner and operator of the Cloverleaf Store and Tavern in the Town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), died of a heart attack while sawing lumber in the wooded area in the southwest part of Worden, on Saturday, July 25, 1959.

 

Death was instantaneous.

 

Mr. Ehlert was born on Oct. 6, 1893 in Marion, Wis.  On Oct. 21, 1919 he was united in marriage to Julia McCaffery at St. Mary’s Church in Stanley, Wis.

 

He operated the South Point Cheese Factory (also known as Ehlert Milk Products) in the Town of Reseburg, from 1921 to 1947, when it was destroyed by fire.  He purchased the Wildwood Cheese Factory in 1946 and operated the Cloverleaf Store and Tavern in the Town of Worden on County Trunk M.

 

He was a member of the Thorp Sportsmen’s Club, the Clark county Tavern League and the Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club.

 

Surviving him are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Richard Baines of Milwaukee and Mrs. Robert Carter of Spokane, Wash., two sister, Mrs. Gust Wege of Birnamwood, Wis., and Mrs. Frank Radke of Milwaukee, and ten grandchildren.

 

Last rites were conducted by the Rev. Father Connie Chilicki at St. Hedwig’s Chapel in the city of Thorp at ten o’clock Tuesday morning with interment following in the new parish cemetery.  Pallbearers were Tom Polnaszek, John Barth, Jack Foster, William Micke, Willard Vanderhyden and Max Schultz.
