Myron James Jordahl, 84, of Neillsville died Monday, Nov. 14, 2001, at his home.

Myron James was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Lake Park, MN, the son of Leonard and Clara (Groff) Jordahl.  Upon his graduation from Lake Park High School in 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army June 6, 1944 in the specialized training program and qualified for Air Force Pilot Training.  Jim went through basic training in Texas. The pilot training program was cancelled, so he went through B-29 mechanic school and was stationed at Istres, France and Giebelstadt, Germany in the 306th Bomb Group.

Jim returned in August 1946 and attended the University-Minnesota, graduating with a BA in accounting.  He worked for the Soo Line Railroad from 1948 to 1951.  In November 1951 Jim and Charles Jordahl opened the Gambles Hardware Store in Neillsville.  In 1959, they sold the Gambles Store and opened Jordahl’s Furniture Store, which they owned and operated until 1972.

He was united in marriage to Eleanor Marie Schouviller Aug. 21, 1954, in Richmond, MN.  He was active in many clubs, was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73, County Commander of the 40 & 8, Commander and Adjutant for the Legion Post #73 and for 30 years served as the treasurer for the Legion Post.  He was a member of the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce, the Neillsville Lion’s Club, Kiwanis, the Neillsville Country Club, the Gun Club, the Sportsman’s Club Bowling Association and University of Minnesota Alumni Association.

Jim enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and playing cribbage.  Fishing was his favorite hobby with many of his friends, especially Cal Swenson and Leo ‘Lefty’ Kessler.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor, of Neillsville; four daughters, Jean Spiegel of Neillsville, Dr. Janyce (John) Moroz of Plymouth, Judy Jordahl of Brooklyn Center, MN, and Dr. Joyce (Gregg) Nash of Sparta; five grandchildren, Jason and Jenny Spiegel, Mari and James Moroz and Nicholas Nash; and one sister, LaVonne Hove of New Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles.

A Memorial Service for Jim was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville.  Pastor Judith Anderson-Bauer officiated.  Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council.  Jim’s family greeted friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Lutheran Church.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church, 213 Hill Street, Neillsville, WI 54456 or the New Building Fund for the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73.
