Bender, Sylvia L. (3 July 1925 - 10 November 2011)

Sylvia L. Bender, 86, of Colby, formerly of Neillsville, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at the Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Abbotsford.

Sylvia L. Bender was born July 3, 1925, in Dorchester, the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Rothamer) Ploeckelman.  She attended school in Dorchester and she was united in marriage to Henry Bender April 14, 1945, at St. Peter’s Church in Dorchester. Sylvia helped farm with her husband and she also worked as a certified nursing assistant for 32 years at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.  She had a special friend, Walter Davis, who went to Heaven in 2010, and very special neighbors, Sheila Schillinger and her daughter Megan and family.

She is survived by three children, Arlen (Julie) Bender of Unity, Dale (Linda) Bender of Medford and Sandy Malovrh of Medford; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four sisters: Bernice (DuWayne) Miller of Eau Claire, Delores (Elmer) Oehmichen of Colby, Jolene Ploeckelman of Milwaukee and Bonnie (Glenn, Jr.) States, of Wausau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; three sisters, Donna (Elmer) Kaldunski, June Ploeckelman and SueAnn (Lester) Gumz; her parents, Benjamin and Clara Ploeckelman; and a baby brother, Kenneth Ploeckelman.

Funeral services for Sylvia will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Interment will be in the Marie Louise Chapel Cemetery in Christie. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and will be again from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home.

Honorary casketbearers are Krystal Dohrwardt, Kimberly Schwamman, Richard Bender, Debra Bender and Patty Bender.

Casketbearers are David Bender, Allan Bender, Gary Mann, Ben Mann, Ryan Bender and Brian Bender.
