Ziehr, Amelia (23 OCT 1887 - 31 JAN 1959)

Final rites were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cadott Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Joseph Ziehr, who passed away Jan. 31, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Hospital following an illness of some duration.

Rev. Clarence Cizek of Chippewa Falls officiated at the two o’clock services.  Funeral music was provided by Roger Douvilla, Ray Post, and Gordon Peterson, with Mrs. Fred Rotermund at the organ.  Pallbearers were Walter Janeke, Albert Emerson, David Dugal, Emil Raether, Herman Kniter, and Ray Nelson.

Burial was in the Cadott Cemetery.

Mrs. Ziehr was born Amelia Buss at Scorse, Mich., on Oct. 23, 1887, and came to the Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.)  Community with her parents when she was ten years old, residing on a homestead in the Town of Reseburg.

(Something is wrong with either the birth date or marriage date, because she would have been only 12 when she got married, based on the dates in the obituary)

On May 31, 1899, she was married to Joseph Ziehr at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Reseburg by Rev. K.C. Bubeck.  They lived in Thorp until 1907, when they moved to Cadott.

Mr. and Mrs. Ziehr observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1949.

She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Ella) Karlen of Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Lloyd (Gertrude) Nelson of Manawa, Wis., and Mrs. E.K. (Agnes) Born of Sheboygan, Wis.; two sons, Edward of Cadott and Dr. R.H. Ziehr of Augusta; one brother, Herman Buss of Stanley; one sister, Mrs. Anna Wilcox of Pearson, Wis., and by 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was a son, William.
