Petkovsek, Arthur W. (27 APR 1932 - 29 OCT 2011)

Arthur W. Petkovsek, 79, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. He is now at peace with freedom to move and no longer constrained by polio.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. Father Joseph Follmar will officiate and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Art's nieces and nephews: Shelby Shiller, Jill Wrensch, Tammy Niles, Joe Aumann, John Aumann, Glenn Aumann, Brian Petkovsek and Greg Petkovsek.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Arthur William Petkovsek was born on April 27, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Tony and Dorothy (Anderson) Petkovsek. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1950. Art was united in marriage to Jeanette (Aumann) Bentzler on May 14, 1977. They lived in Greenwood until moving to Owen in January 2009.

Although Art became infected with polio when he was 5 years old, he never let that keep him from working daily at his shop rewinding motors or cutting meat. In 2003, Art was honored as the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year. Later that year, Art closed his business for health reasons.

Art loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and driving through the country. His trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Canada for hunting, fishing, and visiting family were highlights of his year. Thanks to his brother Bob who accompanied him on handicapped hunts, Art harvested his last deer in 2010. Art is now free from braces and wheelchairs.

Arthur is survived by three step-children, Patti (Jerry) Sowls of New London, Carol (John) Trunkel of Willard, and Harry (Lori) Bentzler of Silt, Colo.; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Christopher) Durham of Chippewa Falls, Talysin Justman of Cross Plains, Jamii (Hope) Bentzler of Silt, Colo., and Ross Bentzler of Silt, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary and Joshua Durham of Chippewa Falls, Tyler Justman of Cross Plains and Riley Bentzler of Silt, Colo.; four brothers, Tony (Pat) Petkovsek of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Jim (Janet) Petkovsek of Greenwood, Bill (Yvonne) Petkovsek of Greenwood, Robert (Barb) Petkovsek of Neillsville; three sisters, Maryann (Joe) Wayer, Pat (Marvin) Whitney, Dolores (Bill) Lee, all of Waukegan, Ill.; five sisters-in-law, Alice (Eddie) Petkovsek of Marshfield, Rosie Aumann of Butler, Clara Ampe of Loyal, Caroline (Ray) Miller of Loyal, Doreen (Pat) Mrotek of Cadott; three brothers-in-law, Clarence (Doris) Aumann of Spencer, Irban (Leona) Aumann of Marshfield and Henry (Lois) Aumann of Loyal.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; brother, Edward; and brother-in-law, Joe Wayer.
