Gurklis, Magdalene (6 JAN 1891 - 28 AUG 1958)

 

Mrs. Joseph, 67, who had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Edwin Stedl of Rt. 2, Greenleaf, for the past three months, died there Aug. 28, 1958, following a lingering illness.

 

Funeral services were held at ten a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Chapel, Thorp, Wis.  Burial was at the parish cemetery.

 

Mrs. Gurklis, nee Magdalene Mikunski, was born Jan. 6, 1891, in Krakow, Poland.  She came to America with her father and brother when a child and settled in Lincoln, Ill.  She was married to Joseph Gurklis Sept. 12, 1909, at Lincoln, Ill.  They lived there two years before moving to a farm at Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis.  In 1956 they left the farm and have been staying with their children.

 

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Clarence, Zigmund and Vincent of Chicago, and Frank of Thorp; two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Stedl of Rt. 2, Greenleaf, and Mrs. Matt Glowacki of Chicago; a brother and three sisters, all living in Poland; and 26 grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Milton Kitzerow, Robert Stedl, Richard Glowacki, Thomas Glowacki, Joe Burzynski, Ted Strzok.
