Mahn, Cathrine (? - December 1910)

One more of the old settlers, has been called home to meet the loved ones that have gone before.  The old settlers of the Town of Grant and Lynn will remember Grandma Mahn who lived 1 ½ miles east of Granton for over 30 years until last spring when she went to West Bend, Wis., to live with her brother.

Grandma has seen a good deal of hardship - helped clear up a farm in West Bend and one in the Town of Grant. She knew what it was to be in a new country with no money and little to eat, but she looked on the bright side of life, ever willing to lend a helping hand, never turning one from her door when she had bread to give.  But poor old Grandma had her sorrow, caused by others downfall, holding fast to the lines as long as life remained. At the age of 71 years, without a home and only a few dollars in her possession, God called her from the home of kind hearted strangers to His home above where sorrow is no more.

Her remains were laid to rest in St. Michels Cemetery at West Bend, December 5th.  She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Anna Konshak of Dorchester, Wis., one son John Mahn, a brother and a sister at West Bend, 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  For 20 years she took a pride in giving all of her grandchildren a little gift on Christmas as a token of her love.  Kind words will never die, and on this Christmas Day she is with Christ where the tree of life is blooming.

Hark, ‘tis the voice of angels

Born in a song to me,

Over the fields of glory,

Over the Jasper Sea.  J. U.
